Loveseat Dimensions: Will It Fit Your Room?
The usual loveseat size, the space around it and a quick way to try one in your room.
A loveseat is typically 60 × 36 × 34 in (152 × 91 × 86 cm), with most between 58 and 64 in (147 to 163 cm) wide. Leave 12 to 18 in (30 to 45 cm) to the coffee table and 24 to 28 in (60 to 70 cm) to walk past. With a 24 in (61 cm) coffee table and a walkway beyond it, the room needs to be about 102 in (259 cm) deep in front of the wall.
Loveseat Sizes
- Width: 52 to 68 in (132 to 173 cm). Most are 58 to 64 in (147 to 163 cm), enough for two people.
- Depth: 32 to 40 in (81 to 102 cm). A deep, cushioned loveseat is at the top of that range.
- Height: 31 to 38 in (79 to 97 cm). The back, not the seat.
- A small sofa and a loveseat are the same thing. The name usually means a two-seater; a 'loveseat' is rarely over 68 in (173 cm).
Space You Need Around It
Nooked uses the same gaps as for any sofa. The coffee table gap is what most people get wrong, so the total below includes one.
- In front, to the coffee table: 12 to 18 in (30 to 45 cm). Closer is cramped, and further is hard to reach.
- Walkway past the sofa: 24 to 28 in (60 to 70 cm). Behind it or beside it, wherever people walk.
- Room depth in front of a wall: about 102 in (259 cm). A 36 in (91 cm) loveseat, 18 in (45 cm) gap, a 24 in (61 cm) coffee table and 24 in (61 cm) to walk.
Where It Fits
A loveseat suits a small living room, an apartment or the end of a bedroom. It is the size to use where a 3-seat sofa takes too much floor, and it pairs well with an armchair.
Two people sit comfortably on a 58 to 64 in loveseat. Below about 52 in (132 cm) it is a chair-and-a-half and does not seat two adults well.
Getting It Through the Door
Measure the doorways, hallways and any stairs on the way in. A sofa usually goes through a standard door on its end, and legs and arms can often come off. If the route is tight, see will furniture fit through the door.
Where These Sizes Come From
These are typical ranges, not one product. Sofa sizes are not standardised, so check the listing for the exact one. Arms and cushions are part of the width, and a rolled arm can add several inches.
