IKEA STORKLINTA Dresser Dimensions: Will It Fit Your Room?
The STORKLINTA 6-drawer dresser's size, how it compares with the MALM, the space to open the drawers and a quick way to try one in your room.
Every IKEA STORKLINTA dresser is 18 7/8 in (48 cm) deep. The wide 6-drawer is 55 1/8 in wide and 29 1/2 in high (140 × 48 × 75 cm). IKEA's diagrams show the drawers opening about 10 7/8 in (27.5 cm) out from the front, but leave 24 in (60 cm) in front so you can stand at it. 18 in (45 cm) is the least. On a wall it needs a room about 43 in (109 cm) deep.
STORKLINTA Sizes
The series has seven dressers and chests, all 18 7/8 in (48 cm) deep. Sizes are from IKEA's US product pages.
- Nightstand, 1 drawer: 15 3/4 × 18 7/8 × 20 7/8 in (40 × 48 × 53 cm). Width, depth and height. It has an open shelf below the drawer, 9 in (23 cm) high.
- 2-drawer chest: 19 5/8 × 18 7/8 × 20 7/8 in (50 × 48 × 53 cm). Width, depth and height. The same height as the nightstand, and a little wider.
- 3-drawer: 27 1/2 × 18 7/8 × 29 1/2 in (70 × 48 × 75 cm). Width, depth and height.
- 4-drawer: 27 1/2 × 18 7/8 × 38 5/8 in (70 × 48 × 98 cm). Width, depth and height.
- 5-drawer, narrow and tall: 15 3/4 × 18 7/8 × 47 1/4 in (40 × 48 × 120 cm). Width, depth and height.
- 6-drawer, tall: 27 1/2 × 18 7/8 × 47 1/4 in (70 × 48 × 120 cm). Width, depth and height.
- 6-drawer, wide: 55 1/8 × 18 7/8 × 29 1/2 in (140 × 48 × 75 cm). Width, depth and height. The one that matches the wide MALM.
- Drawers: 24 in (61 cm) wide, 15 3/4 in (40 cm) deep and 6 1/4 in (16 cm) high on the 3-, 4-, 6-drawer chests. The nightstand and the 5-drawer have 12 1/4 in (31 cm) wide drawers. The 2-drawer chest has 16 1/8 in (41 cm) wide drawers.
- How far a drawer opens: IKEA's diagrams show 10 7/8 in (27.5 cm) from the front of the dresser.
STORKLINTA and MALM
IKEA presents STORKLINTA as the redesigned replacement for its MALM chests of drawers. The 6-drawer sizes compare like this.
- Width: STORKLINTA 55 1/8 in (140 cm), MALM 63 in (160 cm). The STORKLINTA is about 8 in (20 cm) narrower.
- Depth: STORKLINTA 18 7/8 in (48 cm), MALM 19 in (48 cm). About the same.
- Height: STORKLINTA 29 1/2 in (75 cm), MALM 30 3/4 in (78 cm). The STORKLINTA is about 1 1/4 in (3 cm) lower.
- If you have a MALM, the STORKLINTA will not fill the same wall space. Measure the gap it has to fit. See MALM dresser dimensions.
Space You Need Around a STORKLINTA
The gaps are the same as for any dresser. A drawer opens about 10 7/8 in (27.5 cm) out, and you need room to stand.
- In front, comfortable: 24 in (60 cm). Room for a drawer to come out and for you to stand at it.
- In front, tight: 18 in (45 cm). The drawer comes out, but you stand to one side.
- Room depth on a wall: about 43 in (109 cm). The 18 7/8 in (48 cm) dresser plus 24 in (60 cm) in front.
- Wall length: the width of the dresser, from 15 3/4 in (40 cm) for the nightstand to 55 1/8 in (140 cm) for the wide 6-drawer. Add 18 in (45 cm) beside it if you want a nightstand or a lamp next to it.
Where It Fits
The wide 6-drawer, at 55 1/8 in (140 cm), takes a wall of about 4 ft 7 in (1.4 m). It suits a bedroom wall or the foot of a bed. The 3- and 4-drawer chests at 27 1/2 in (70 cm) fit a narrower wall, and the tall ones use height instead of width. If it faces the bed, keep 24 in (60 cm) between them so the drawers open and people can pass.
