IKEA MICKE Desk Dimensions: Will It Fit Your Room?

The IKEA MICKE desk comes in three widths, 28 3/4, 41 3/8 and 55 7/8 in (73, 105 and 142 cm), all 19 5/8 in (50 cm) deep and 29 1/2 in (75 cm) high. The middle one is 41 3/8 × 19 5/8 × 29 1/2 in (105 × 50 × 75 cm). The chair needs 36 in (91 cm) behind the desk to be comfortable and 24 in (60 cm) at the least. Against a wall that is a room about 56 in (141 cm) deep.

- Small: 28 3/4 × 19 5/8 × 29 1/2 in (73 × 50 × 75 cm). Width, depth and height. About 27 1/2 in (70 cm) between the legs.
- Standard: 41 3/8 × 19 5/8 × 29 1/2 in (105 × 50 × 75 cm). Width, depth and height. It has a storage unit on one side, 11 in (28 cm) wide, so the knee room between the open leg and the unit is 26 3/8 in (67 cm).
- Wide: 55 7/8 × 19 5/8 × 29 1/2 in (142 × 50 × 75 cm). Width, depth and height. About 53 1/2 in (136 cm) between the legs.
- Under the desk: 24 3/4 in (63 cm) of knee room, measured up from the floor on IKEA's diagrams.
- Compact all round. At 19 5/8 in (50 cm) deep it fits a laptop and a keyboard but is shallow for a desktop monitor.
Space You Need Around It
A desk is only as useful as the chair behind it, so the gap that matters is behind the desk.
- Behind the desk, comfortable: 36 in (91 cm). Room to pull the chair out, sit down and get up.
- Behind the desk, tight: 24 in (60 cm). The chair fits but cannot go back far.
- Room depth against a wall: about 56 in (141 cm) with 36 in (91 cm) behind it, or 44 in (111 cm) with 24 in (60 cm).
- Walkway: if people walk behind the chair, allow 24 to 28 in (60 to 70 cm) on top of the chair's space.
Where It Fits
The small 28 3/4 in (73 cm) desk fits a corner, an alcove or a narrow gap. The standard 41 3/8 in (105 cm) fits under a window or against the end of a bed. The wide 55 7/8 in (142 cm) takes a wall of about 5 ft (1.5 m) and suits two screens.
The shallow depth means a chair pulled in leaves room to walk. A monitor on a stand sits close, so check the eye distance.
