How to Choose the Right Coffee Table Size for Your Sofa
Coffee table size, sofa proportions and room layout

The right coffee table should feel proportional to your sofa while leaving enough space to move comfortably around it.
A useful starting point is to choose a coffee table around two-thirds the length of your sofa.
For example, a 210 cm (83 in) sofa could work well with a coffee table around 140 cm (55 in) long.
But the ratio isn't a strict rule. Your room, sofa shape and surrounding furniture all matter.
How Much Space Should Be Between the Sofa and Table?
Leave around 35–45 cm (14–18 in) between the edge of the sofa and the coffee table as a practical starting point.
This gives people enough legroom while keeping the table close enough to reach comfortably.
For smaller rooms, you may need to reduce the distance. Larger rooms may allow more space.
What About Coffee Table Height?
A coffee table is usually most comfortable when its surface is roughly level with the sofa seat or slightly lower.
A significantly taller table can feel awkward in front of a low sofa, while a very low table may be less practical for everyday use.
Don't Forget the Shape
Round and oval coffee tables can be particularly useful in smaller rooms because they eliminate sharp corners and can make circulation around the table easier.
Pro tip
Don't choose your coffee table based only on the sofa. Check the sofa, table and walking paths as one layout.
